There are always 3 parts to a story and yet the media only portrays the Israeli side. I thought this book was excellent till the end. Having visited Palestine and seeing the conditions they live in has made me realize the medias blatant disregard for human life. The author is a hypocrite, he himself is very biased. An excellent website is news.bbc.co.uk. The death ratio of Palestinians to Israeli's is at least 10 to 1.
This is a much more accurate view. The end states how the Palestinians look better in the media than the Israelis and this could not be any further from the truth. Please read former US President's book entitled "Peace Not Apartheid". The media often portrays Israel as the poor helpless victims yet Israel doesn't allow for even water to enter Gaza let alone food or medical supplies. Israel is backed by F16s and and nuclear weapons. Or visit media websites that are not based in the US or backed by Israel.
I urge people to form their own opinions rather than to listen to others.
Even though most Americans know there is bias in the news media, this book confirms it. I purchased the book for myself, but had to fight off my husband for it at least a couple of times a week. It was an excellent read, quick & to the point. It's daunting when you try to think of a time when media bias would no longer be an issue, or worse yet trying to stop it from occurring at all. If you're looking for a quick, easy & insightful read this is it.
Mr Goldberg rattles the liberal cage. There is a liberal bias in the media as there is in big business and in academia as well.
This book was well written, funny, and I couldn't put it down. The author criticizes both the liberal bias and the sensationalism of the media, and he cites many examples to support his claims.
What can I say. But that being the case, I still liked this book a lot and recommend it because he is telling the truth.
The only criticism I have is that the author made too many nasty comments about Dan Rather. I don't think this type of commentary was necessary, and it calls into question his motive for writing the book.
The liberal mindset seems to be the default political position in the world today, and few ever dare question the core tenets of liberal dogma. Thank you Mr Goldberg.
It is particalarly inteesting when he speaks about how News has evolved fom the Fair and Balanced approach which wa not expected to generate revenue into a program that now looks strongly at the bottom line. The network was not amused yet he merely wrote what most people were already aware of.
The writer is an Emmy Award winner who spent twenty eight years at CBS and was highly respected for his work there. This book is relevant and is important.
When the writer found that they failed to believe that any Bias existed, he took it upon himself to author a piece that appeared in the Wall Street Journal. His world took a turn when he noticed that there was a decided tilt to the Left on the news programs that Americans watch with regularity.
His concerns were initially brought to the Superiors at the Network. This book goes into the thought processes that exist at a major network and how stories are selected and are then given the appropriate "spin" for the show.
No matter what ones leanings might be, this is an important book that should not be overlooked.
The fact that the media pounded for days and weeks on the Wright and Ayrnes stories, with the image of Wright ranting shown on the TV screen day and night for an extended period of time, is brushed aside by Goldburg as being "inconsequential" and "too late." Goldburg also thinks that the relentless Aryes coverage is "legitimate." He simply repeats all the right wing and extreme conversatives' charge, which was heard ove and over again both during and after the campaigh, without providing any real substance. The book is completely worthless. It says more about the author's own political and ideological bias than the main stream media's. It just seems that Goldburg is still seething from being outsted by CBS. Well, he is no longer a journalist for a good reason.
